It seems that this gameplay video and the introduction of multiplayer have provided fans wth exactly what they’re looking for, as Wasteland 3 quickly blitzed through its crowdfunding goal. The goal of its Fig funding campaign was set at $2.75 million, but in just three days almost 14,000 backers have contributed to the campaign. As of this writing, total funding has reached $2.8 million.

With just over 25 days left to go, the campaign is far from over and there are several Wasteland 3 stretch goals meant to give backers even more bang for their buck. These include 37 pieces of flair (extra Ranger customization, such as more hairstyles and more body types) at the $2.85 million mark, a talking car companion that aids players during combat and travel at $3 million, and when the campaign reaches $3.1 million, players will unlock a customizable Ranger Squad insignia that will show up at their base and on flags throughout the game.

While Wasteland 3 is likely to blitz through those stretch goals well before the campaign is over, it’s yet to be seen whether it will overtake Psychonauts 2 and its $3.3 million raised on Fig or whether it will overtake Star Citizen, which has now raised over $100 million, but that is a big stretch. InXile is experienced in the space, having launched crowdfunding campaigns for Wasteland 2, Torment: Tides of Numenera, and The Bard’s Tale IV, so it’s entirely possible that it will get its latest title into the crowdfunding record books.

The final figure may be up for guessing, but what’s certain is that many will be looking towards Wasteland 3 and developer InXile to help restore crowdfunding’s reputation. Crowdfunded games are dropping in popularity, likely as a result of poorly received crowdfunded titles such as Mighty No. 9, but InXile has a solid track record, and if Wasteland 3 is a continuation of that, it could just restore people’s faith.

Wasteland 3 will release in 2019 on PS4, Xbox One, PC, Mac and Linux.
