Aris Mardirossian, a neighbor of Snyder's in Potomac, Md. and a patent investor, filed the paperwork Oct. 17 with United States Patent and Trademark office.

However, a Redskins team spokesman told The Washington Times that "there is no connection between the Washington Redskins and the trademark application. Dan Snyder does not know the man named in the story.”

The patent application says the name would be used for “entertainment in the nature of football games,” language similar to the trademark registrations for the Seattle Seahawks and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which read, "entertainment services in the form of professional football games and exhibitions.”

And that's where the information dries up. So, what Mardirossian is up to is anyone's guess. But given the timing of the registration, it makes you wonder if a name change is afoot, or at the very least, being considered.
