“Kevon has his entire NBA career ahead of him and we felt that, in consultation with our medical staff, Kevon and his representatives, it was best to address the issue now,” Warriors general manager Bob Myers said in the statement. “He will have our complete support throughout the rehabilitation process and we are confident he will make a full recovery.”

Looney averaged 11.6 points and 9.2 rebounds per game in his one season at UCLA and followed that up by averaging 9.3 points and 7.2 rebounds in just under 20 minutes per game for the Warriors’ NBA Summer League team in Las Vegas.

The hip issue was known before the draft, causing his draft stock to drop. He had been a projected lottery pick in some mock drafts but slid all the way to the NBA champions with the last pick in the first round.
