If it seems that Jackson is on thin ice because there have been no discussions about a contract extension with the front office, then at least he can take comfort in knowing he is not alone—many coaches are in worse situations. Jackson, at least, has a contract that runs through next season.

Five coaches (plus Detroit interim John Loyer) have contracts that run up at the end of the season. Toronto’s Dwane Casey has his team on the brink of its first playoff spot since 2007, but his contract is up at the end of this year, and there is no extension on the table as of yet.

Similarly, Washington’s Randy Wittman and Portland’s Terry Stotts have had good seasons here at the end of their contracts, but they, too, have not had discussions about an extension.

And those on the final year of their deals who have had not-so-good seasons—New York’s Mike Woodson and Utah’s Tyrone Corbin—are on ice that is as thin as it can get.

In addition to Jackson, five coaches (Houston’s Kevin McHale, the Lakers’ Mike D’Antoni, Charlotte’s Steve Clifford, Minnesota’s Rick Adelman and Orlando’s Jacque Vaughn) have contracts that run up in 2015.
