On face value, the picture appeared to be a patriotic gesture by Westbrook, but Lee Jenkins of Sports Illustrated later revealed that Thunder players used to use the term “cupcake” to refer to someone who was soft, meaning the post was actually a jab at Kevin Durant, who had recently left the Thunder for the Warriors in free agency. Well, it turns out Durant had the last laugh.

Durant was recently photographed wearing a custom-made hat that featured a cupcake on it, with a championship ring on top, in honor of the Warriors’ 2017 NBA championship.
Add this to the list of reasons why the NBA’s offseason is almost as compelling as the regular season.
